Emperor Theodosius I the Great

The last emperor to rule a united Roman Empire. Native of Hispania, born in 347. Made Nicene Christianity the empire's official religion. Eastern Roman emperor (379-394), and of a united empire (394-395). He was the last emperor to rule an empire from Britain to Egypt, Portugal to Syria. Following his death in 395, the Roman Empire was permanently split in half between his sons Arcadius taking the eastern half (Byzantine Empire) and Honorius taking the west.
